On January 3, 2019, the Foundation started off the year submitting its first grant to the Atherton Foundation. Submitted with approval of the Foundation Board, Kamealoha Smith, the program administrator put together a grant in hopes of obtaining funding for the Project Kiai Kai: Youth Ocean Stewardship and Water Safety Program. If successfully funded, the Foundation will be able to providing training to 80 youth on Kauai. Let’s all cross our fingers and toes and send out prayers to the universe that our youth program’s obtain funding. Currently on Kauai there is no program like Kiai Kai that teaches ocean stewardship in both Hawaiian and English and taught using curriculum from both a western science and traditional knowledge perspective.
