Welina mai kākou e nā hoa ʻāina,
It has been a long time since we have blogged. Been busy with so many new projects. I am happy to introduce MALAMA OLA, a new project we started on September 1, 2021. MALAMA OLA, is dedicated to studying the fish behavior of ‘Ama’ama in the Hanalei River. We are also working with fishermen in other rivers to gather information about traditional knowledge practices. We really want to key in KILO AINA, astute observation. It is a practice our KUPUNA used to better understand how to MALAMA (care for) the resources and to address issues of sustainability. There is also great interest among those working on issues of CLIMATE CHANGE to understand solutions that our KUPUNA used in the past to the changing environmental conditions during traditional time. Please feel free to share your thoughts with us!
